India Office to Foreign Office.-(Received August 17.) Sir,

IN reply to your letter dated the 11th August, 1911, forwarding a copy of

India Office, August 16, 1911. Messrs. D. Sassoon and Co.'s letter of the 5th August, I am directed by the Secretary of State for India in Council to refer you to Sir R. Ritchie's letter dated the 20th July, in which it is explained that the 14,000 chests for 1912 are a provisional figure only, and that the Government of India have undertaken to reconsider the matter in the light of the information regarding the opium requirements of countries outside China which has been called for.

I am to suggest that Messrs. Sassoons should be informed to this effect. of their letter will be communicated to the Government of India for consideration.
